Awarded Person

Toshihiko Mouri, Yoshinori Itou, Yousuke Sugai, NTN Powder Metal Corporation
Eiji Yuasa, Emeritus Professor, Tokyo City University

Awarded Technology

Development of materials for composite sintered bearings using double-molding method

Technology Overview

Achieves the world's first double-molding method to cast two dissimilar materials into a single object. This newly developed molding method and optimizations to the sintering conditions were used to develop oil-impregnated sintered bearings, which use hard materials with outstanding wear-resistance for the bearing inner layer, and high-strength structural material for the outer layer.

Reason for Receiving the Award

This new technology was developed with the aim of improving the wear-resistance of journal bearings used in the joints of heavy industrial machinery such as hydraulic excavators. The technology was highly rated as being worthy for the Division Award (Category: New Technology Development) of the Material and Processing Division as it is anticipated to contribute largely to development and progress of industrial technology in this field.
