Congratulations: Opening of Hokuriku ShinkansenMarch 5, 2015
[NTN bearings contributing to safe and comfortable high-speed operation]
NTN Corporation (hereafter, NTN) extends its sincere congratulations on the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen on March 14.
NTN is providing bearings to the new E7 and W7 series rolling stock for the Hokuriku Shinkansen. In addition to cylindrical roller type journal bearings that have been extensively using in Shinkansen, which is capable of high-speed operation that will link Tokyo and Kanazawa in approximately 2.5 hours at the earliest time, ceramic insulated bearings that are resistant to electrical corrosion are used for the traction motors and contributing to a reliable level of power required for stable operation.
Ever since joining Japan National Railways in development of Shinkansen rolling stock in 1958, NTN has grown together with development of the Shinkansen. NTN's journal bearings that were used in the first 0 series rolling stock that began operating in 1964 are the only type of bearing from a Japanese manufacturer to be certified by the Japanese Society of Tribologists as a “Tribology Heritage.” The lightweight and compact design of the journal bearings that have evolved together with the Shinkansen for over 50 years contribute to a lighter weight and faster speed of the rolling stock.
NTN is contributing to the safe and comfortable operation of the Hokuriku Shinkansen that is expected to bring economic development and local revitalization of the Hokuriku region.
