High load capacity tapered roller bearing

The use of a special retainer allows the total number of rollers to be increased to the equivalent number as a full roller bearing^* in this high load capacity tapered roller bearing. Reducing the contact surface pressure under load conditions increases the rated operating life by up to 40%, and achieves up to 10% more rigidity. To use the bearings at the same load capacity as conventional bearings, a 20% weight saving is possible due to the smaller size of the bearing.

*	Full roller bearing: bearing without a retainer, consisting of a raceway (inner/outer ring) and rolling element (roller). Features more rollers than the same size bearing with a retainer, and can operate with larger loads.

[ Reason for receiving the award ]

More compact, lightweight designs and lower viscosity oils are increasingly being used for transmissions, differentials and other automobile components with the aim of improving fuel efficiency, which requires bearings to also be more compact, lighter and have a longer operating life. The award rates highly the fact that this product meets these needs, and is already being used in automobile gearboxes to contribute to greater fuel efficiency.
