Commercialization of “Rolling bearing in response to environment” reducing environmental impacts

[ First in the industry! Use of biodegradable materials for all of cage, seal and grease ]

NTN Corporation (hereafter NTN) developed “Rolling bearing in response to environment” using biodegradable materials for the cage, seal and grease in order to reduce environmental impacts. This is the first time in the industry and the proto-type sample is now available.

Backed by increasing awareness on the global environment, all industries are required to have a positive approach to environmental conservation and resource recycling. Until now, NTN as a precision part maker have been contributing to global environment protection and energy saving through longer life, lower torque and resource saving (down sizing and weight reduction) with their products.

This new product uses biodegradable materials for the cage, seal and grease, and even if it is buried, it is degraded by bugs in the soil. Strength and heat resistance properties required as structural materials are improved with the biodegradable materials for the cage and seal. Those materials are not only degraded by bugs in the soil, but also meet biodegradability of 60% or more (GreenPla Mark compliance). Furthermore, even if set on fire, they do not generate NOx or SOx of air pollutant. Meanwhile, the base oil of the grease is an ester series synthetic oil and the grease satisfies biodegradability of 60% or more (Eco Mark compliance). Also, when the grease is disposed of, or leaked during outdoor use, it does not pollute the soil.

NTN will propose this bearing to potential customers as a recommended product for global environment protection, and respond to sample requests to create the demand.

Note 1) GreenPla Mark : Official certification mark to biodegradable plastics
Note 2) Eco Mark : Official certification mark to biodegradable materials (except plastic) or commodities using those materials.
